About meAs a conversation analyst, I study language from an interactional perspective; which means that I am not interested in the formal, cognitive structure of language – at least not primarily – but in how speakers use language to communicate and to achieve a mutual understanding. Conversation Analysis is, however, somewhat of a niche field. So for those who are unfamiliar with it, I've written the briefest of introductions containing an overview of the history of the field, as well as current lines of research and some of its prominent results. These overviews are of course far from exhaustive, but they give some idea of the value of the method. The rest of this site is dedicated to my research: what I'm studying and why.
